Mountains appear to be solid and un-changing but they too once came out of the ocean and are in a constant state of process. When I first made this piece I was thinking of how all paths to wisdom eventually get you to the top of the mountain, no matter how long or winding those paths may be. But after further study and practice I realize that ‘top’ and ‘bottom’ are just linear, artificial concepts, and that simply being, and more importantly knowing you’re on the mountain is enough.

“The secret of the mountain is that the mountains simply exist, as I do myself; the mountains exist simply, which I do not. The mountains have no ‘meaning’, they are meaning; the mountains are.” - Peter Matthiessen, The Snow Leopard
